Friday Five

Here are 5 things that I'm loving this week

All my recent photos involve cookbooks that I'm lusting over, so here's a breathtaking photo of one of the ceilings in Doge's Palace in Venice. We stayed in Venice for a day and a half, and it was beautiful - but completely overrun by tourists (...like me). I particularly enjoyed all of the canals (as evidenced by at least 50 pictures), and the fior di latte gelato. And tiramisu.

Saturn Return. During my time at CCNM, we would casually toss around the phrase of Mercury being in retrograde whenever something was going wrong in our lives. I recently came across the notion of Saturn Return: During the Saturn return —which lasts 2.5 to 3 years— you will come face to face with your own blocks and be forced to push through them. All the “mistakes” you made in the 28 years leading up to this seem to crystallize. Rather than repeating them on autopilot, you have a chance to turn lemons into lemonade.

Legs & Mental Health. "The London study, led by Dr. Claire Steves, concluded that age-related changes in mental function were more closely associated to the subjects' leg power than any of the other lifestyle factors tested — including the more obvious ones like their heart health. ... It suggests that simple lifestyle changes to boost our physical activity may help to keep us both mentally and physically healthy,” Steves said in the study's report."

Free Colouring Pages. Back when I was on the peds shift I bought a few colouring books to entertain my little patients. But there would be times that I would break out the Sesame Street colouring book during stressful times. If you're wanting a quick break, print off one of these beautiful sheets. It's not Cookie Monster, but it'll do the trick.

Sweet Potato Boats. With or without bacon, this sweet potato tastes amazing. I topped mine with guacamole, 2 slices of bacon (everything in moderation!), and an over-easy egg. The only downside? It takes about an hour to bake the potato.

Master of None. Have you seen this show? I've loved Aziz Ansari since Parks and Rec - especially with the 'Treat yo self' hilarity that followed. He has a new show on Netflix, and his 'Parents' episode really hit home. Many of our parents have sacrificed and done so much for us, and I know I complain sometimes when my mom wants me to save something on a USB (even though I've showed her how to do it countless times). Sorry mom!
