The benefits of epsom salt baths
Has anyone taken advantage of this nice weather and gone out for a run? I have to admit, I don't run outside at all during the winter (my lungs don't like when I do that), so I stay in and put my treadmill to good use. I've found that running on a treadmill and running outside are very different. My muscles ache after a run outside.
So, whenever I can, I treat myself to an epsom salt bath to relive my post-run cramps and fatigue.
Epsom salts, also known as magnesium sulfate, is a compound that helps release lactic acid from muscles (waste from muscle metabolism, that builds up and elicits that aching feeling) through perspiration.
I love soaking in the tub for about 20 minutes with about 2 cups of epsom salts. If you're already practicing this at home, its best to keep a glass of cool water near you keep yourself hydrated.
Please note that it's important to rest after this bath (meditate, check out some videos on YouTube), to get the therapeutic effects. More importantly, this bath can be very stimulating this if you have hypertension or varicose veins, you should avoid it. If you have any concerns about this treatment, please speak with a medical professional.
